Over the past year, FSU Art BFA ’16 Zak Weinberg has been developing a new body of work with his laser companion. Weinberg has been working on is own sculptural works in galleries and museums, as well as assisting Thomas Sayre in the fabrication of public art commissions. Utilizing the crowd-funding platform Kickstarter, he has presented the new sculptures as an “online exhibition” of laser-cut relief sculpture.
The internal desire to express one’s self visually, is an instinct dating back to ancient civilizations spanning the world. The progression in ability and experience with their medium only motivates the creator to further realize their vision. The inspiration that overwhelmed me when I united with my laser cutter, brought upon the idea for this project. The goal was to develop a new body of sculptures within a year and present it in an “online solo exhibition.” I wanted to connect with a broader audience and provide an opportunity for those who resonate with my work, to view and obtain it, all in one place.
This is what was manifested.
