FSU Art Alum Gives Lecture at USF

Published February 8, 2018

FSU Alum and NYC based artist, Loren Ellis will visit the University of South Florida, to give a lecture on Tuesday, March 6 at 7:00pm. Loren, who received a B.A. at USF, as well as an M.F.A. from FSU, has had many solo and group exhibitions, and her works are in collections worldwide. She credits her time at FSU for helping her develop her mural style and is where she published her first book, Photographs and Thoughts, which was purchased by MoMA and NYC Public Library Museum. Eighteen years ago, she founded Art for Healing NYC Int’l org., a non-profit organization that supports visual and performing artists of all ethnic backgrounds, who share the healing power of their art with the public. She has completed commissions from space and aeronautics to medical companies, including Johnson & Johnson, New York Yankees and portraits of mother and child, etc. She says commissioned work makes her stretch her imagination in directions she would not normally go. She has received numerous grants and awards, including those from Fine Arts Council of Florida, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the Puffin Foundation and more recently, the Circle Foundation in Lyon, France.

“Essence of an Artist – The Art and Life of Loren Ellis – Follow Your Dream…” is a book and documentary in process. Loren was approached by European artists and investors, who proposed this ambitious project, which focuses on her art and life, and will include collaborations with musicians, videographers, graphic designers and voice over actors.
