Studio Equipment Manager

Department

The Department of Art at Florida State University is seeking a Studio Equipment Manger to start in late August. This position focuses primarily on the installation, tracking, and maintenance of departmental equipment across all Labs. Additionally, this position oversees and coordinates with all Lab Managers who will be responsible for maintenance of equipment within their designated labs in the department.

Responsibilities

Manages and coordinates with staff in each area to establish and perform regular maintenance activities, maintenance schedules, safety procedures, and repairs on departmental equipment including but not limited to: ceramics, digital media (except computer labs), photography, printmaking, sculpture, painting and drawing, and foundations. Also, equipment associated with the BFA/MFA studios (Carnaghi Arts Building) and any future classroom/studio spaces.

Manages Equipment Checkout and its personnel for the department. Equipment Checkout serves faculty members, students, and staff. Adding new items to internal inventory, checking items out as well as checking them back in to verify functionality & integrity of contents. Evaluates utilization of equipment, vets resource requests, and offers recommendations to the resource committee.

Trains faculty and Lab managers in the safe use of equipment and assists with the use of equipment until user is proficient.

Coordinates delivery and installation of new equipment between the department and any necessary party such as: central receiving, FedEx, UPS, and facilities. Coordinates surplus and/or disposal of departmental equipment.

Serves as Department of Art Inventory Taker and Assists with annual inventory.

Qualifications

High school diploma/equivalent and two years of experience.

(Note: a combination of post-high school education may substitute for experience at the equivalent rate).

Knowledge of the safe use, repair, and maintenance of tools typically used in art studios.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.

Ability to perform accurately in a detail oriented environment.

Ability to utilize problem-solving and technical skills.

Ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe working environment.

Preferred

Familiarity with art based equipment preferred. Please refer to art.fsu.edu/programs-2/media-areas for information about the department’s labs and equipment.

A technician with at least 2 years of experience maintaining equipment and tools in fine art and design laboratories and shops.

A quick learner and good problem solver, who works well with others and independently.

Proficient and knowledgeable regarding equipment in more than two studio areas, with some experience in other areas.

Anticipated Salary Range

We anticipate hiring in the low 30’s for this position.

Pay Plan

This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
