From FSU Art BA ’19 Nazrene Alsiro:
“My time at the Buckhead Art and Company Gallery had given me a lot of insight into the happenings at the back end of most galleries. I assisted the owner in completing daily routines including how she works with artists, buyers, and interior designers. I was in charge of opening and taking care of the gallery a couple of times a week. Besides some clerical tasks, I would talk to potential buyers who would come in asking about the pieces and what they were looking for.
The gallery has given me an opportunity to meet many other artists and collectors. I attended and assisted the owner during the events and Artist shows that took place at the gallery and sometimes we did pop-ups. I didn’t feel like I faced many challenges but really the only part that got a little stressful at times is making sure that paintings were hung up on time and done well. We had some trouble with artists with being at the gallery in time to tell us how they want the install. That was pretty difficult, especially with the bigger and heavier pieces.
Overall I really loved working at the gallery in fact I am still going to be working there part-time! The gallery has given me an opportunity to meet many other artists and collectors. This has helped me build friendships and connections so that I may be able to share my own artwork too. I can now always attend all the events that take place at the gallery as well. One of my favorite parts was being at Wyton Harvey ‘s 5 new piece opening. Besides helping him get things set up for his show I got to really spend time and get to know him and his work. I would absolutely recommend this internship to other students. I think its a great experience for a future artist to know how other angles of the art world work.”
