Highlight Video of Ceramic Decal Printer

FSU Information Technology Services recently produced a video highlighting the Department of Art’s new ceramic decal printers. The video provides an overview of the process of printing, applying, and firing decals on ceramic surfaces and includes examples of student work.

The high-performance decal printers within the Department of Art at Florida State allow students to integrate computer designs and graphics with ceramics. Funded by the Student Tech Fee Program, the full color, ceramic, decal printers give students the opportunity to work in various art mediums. The equipment allows photographs, digital images, scanned drawings, etc. to be printed in ceramic pigment and transferred to a ceramic form and fused by firing.

The Department of Art received the printers in January of 2022. With digital technologies becoming more incorporated with art making, FSU students experience how beneficial new technology is for their work. In addition, they witness how digital tools can connect to the fundamentals of art.
