Several Exhibitions Featuring Art Alum Dakota Gearhart

Published February 25, 2018

FSU Art BFA ’07 Alum Dakota Gearhart has artwork in several exhibits all over the country. Gearhart is currently participating in the Queens Museum Studio Program and living in NYC. Her installation, “We Are The Intimate Freaks You Asked For” is being shown at Disjecta Contemporary Art Center in Portland, Oregon and curated by Julia Greenway. The exhibition is described as a fictional environment where a femme presence haunts misogynist tech culture.

“Tank Hypnosis” exhibited at Glass Box Gallery in Seattle, WA. Based on research in captivity, sensory deprivation tanks, and the Comet Goldfish. Review by Minh Nguyen.

“Everyday Possibilities Of Feeling Like A Totally Different Person” is at Prairie Underground in Seattle, WA. These are figurative video sculptures based on abstracted femme identities. This event is curated by Sierra Stinson and closes March 3rd.

Over the summer, Gearhart was awarded Residency Unlimited Fellowship in NYC, and exhibited in “Collapse of Vision” at Equity Gallery. Also, she spent a month at Wassaic Artist Residency, where I made this video with Biz Miller. She also has an upcoming two-person exhibition “Psychotropic Seas” with Jean Nagai, curated by Jessica Breedlove Latham at Oregon State University.
