Drawing on Love and Justice: A Call for Participation, A Call for Change

Published October 21, 2020

In the time of a rampant pandemic and racial injustice, how can we draw on our tools to bear witness to the world we are living in and draw on love and justice to imagine a different future? As artists with a wealth of imagination and creative tools, how can we envision and participate with clear intention in creating what we hope to see next in the world, in ways both small and large? How do we continue to learn from and respond to racial injustices that are not new, but that have been amplified during this pandemic?

Leading up to the 2020 elections, this is a call to artists to draw on their creative tools to speak to injustice and make a commitment to draw on love and justice for positive change. What changes are you committed to working for? What are you voting for in 2020?

Drawing from Observation & Imagination:
Drawing is about seeing and perceiving. When we learn to draw from observation, we learn to look closely and carefully. Drawing on Love and Justice asks us to be observant critical thinkers reflecting not only what we see, but also to imagine seeing what we want to change. It is a call to draw from both observation and imagination.

How to Participate:
Create drawings addressing what you see in the world now and what you want to see in the future. Drawings can be explored through any media.
Post the drawings on their Instagram page from September 1 – November 3, (Election Day).

Spread the love person-to-person: Send a message to 5 friends or more on social media and challenge them to participate by creating and sharing their drawings using #drawingonloveandjustice.
