The VCU Summer Studio Program (SSP) is a high-impact post-baccalaureate summer studio residency in sculpture and painting that is perfect for students who wish to apply to MFA programs next year, but who could use some extra concentrated time in the studio to prepare and build their portfolio. It’s a supportive and rigorous residency program with an established track record of inspiring and developing artists within a hothouse environment. Based on our successful MFA programs, this 7-week intensive residency combines theory and practice through seminars, studio visits, visiting artists lectures, critiques, professional development workshops and intensive studio time.

The SSP has been a great success for our previous participants. Past students have been accepted into MFA Programs including: the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia University, the Royal College of Art in London, the University of Texas at Austin, Washington University-St Louis, University of Chicago, Yale, as well as to the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and even our own VCU MFA Programs. In addition to being accepted to top graduate programs, the investment in the two-month studio intensive has netted many excellent financial packages for our participants.
The Summer Studio Program application deadline is April 15, 2018. Questions should be directed to Program Director, Julie Grosche at ssp@vcu.edu
