Art Journal Open features Professor Mona Bozorgi’s recent publication

Published September 14, 2023

Art Journal Open features FSU Art Professor Mona Bozorgi’s recent publication, Threads of Freedom: Unweaving/Reweaving Representation.
Mona Bozorgi is an artist-scholar whose interdisciplinary research and artistic practice focus on identities in the age of post-humanism. In a recent photographic series, Threads of Freedom, Bozorgi creates a “simultaneous weaving together and unwinding of stories of Iranian women who take photographs of themselves and share them on social media in an effort to liberate their bodies from governmental discrimination and control.” Using process as a form of protest, Bozorgi prints digital images of these acts of civil resistance on silk fabric and then arduously deconstructs them by hand. The undertaking of removing threads from the weft of the silk offers the opportunity to “participate by reweaving our stories,” and “amplify the significance of Iranian women’s actions and to echo their message.”
