The FSU School of Theatre’s MFA Technical Production program recent graduate, Jon Shimon (MFA ’11), has co-authored an article, “To Float Like a Firefly”, published in the Spring 2013 edition of Theatre Design and Technology magazine. This publication is the ‘house organ’ for the United States Institute of Theatre Technology, the most prestigious association for the exploration of technical theatre. Jon, who serves in the Technical Department of the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland, collaborated with Jen Dasher and Lisa Burgess to document the creation of cutting-edge costume design incorporating artistry with technology to serve the the unique aesthetic requirements of A Midsummers Night’s Dream.
Jon has been at the Clarice Smith Center for several years and will soon be joined there by Michael Driggers, who is leaving Valdosta State University, where he has been Faculty Technical Director, to become the Clarice Smith Center’s Scenic Studio Coordinator. We wish both well in their new positions.
