Artist Statement
In my work I build upon the history of still life painting and its relationship to domesticity and femininity in European and American history. I re-examine past symbols of femininity shaped by 19th century ... Victorian ideals and reclaim them as subjects which represent my own modes of self expression and autonomy, recognizing the domestic space as an unprejudiced place for all genders who sustain it. Through observational painting, I give attention to seeing quiet moments of beauty in our private spaces that may easily be overlooked or underappreciated.
