🎨 Welcome New Faculty: Alena Mehić 🎨
We are excited to welcome Alena Mehić (b. 1995, Zavidovići, Bosnia & Herzegovina) to our Painting + Drawing faculty this fall! She is teaching Figure Painting and Intermediate Painting.
Alena’s work examines utopia, nation-building, and the archive within the expanded field of painting. Drawing from print media, cinema, design history, surrealism, and folklore, she creates dreamlike compositions that explore the tension between imagined futures and lived realities. Her practice reflects on post-communist perception and the politics of memory, evoking parallel universes where flatness and representation blur.
She received her MFA in Studio Art from UNC–Chapel Hill (2021) and her BFA in Studio Art from Middle Tennessee State University (2017).
