ART3930r-01 Drawing, Color and Collage for Non-Majors Monday + Wednesday 1:20-2:35pm
Drawing, Color & Collage for Non-Majors: In this course, non-major students will be introduced to observational drawing techniques, work with a range of media, explore color, and create imagery through drawing and collage techniques. This studio course develops technical skill while allowing for individual expression and visual story-telling. personal expression. Assignments will include both master techniques and contemporary practices.
ART3930r-02 Ceramics for Non-Majors Wednesdays W 3:05-5:35pm
Ceramics for Non-Art Majors is designed to be an introductory course in ceramic art and its processes. Students will learn hand-building and wheel throwing techniques as well as become knowledgeable in contemporary trends in ceramics art through demonstrations, lectures, and tutorials. Class projects will allow students to practice technique while developing their personal aesthetic within the realm of ceramics.
ART3930r-03 Drawing and Painting for Non-Majors Tuesdays + Thursdays 3:05-4:20pm
Drawing and Painting for Non-Majors: In this course, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of drawing and painting from observation. With an emphasis on self-expression, students will use a variety of media – including charcoal, graphite, and acrylic paint – and will be inspired by artists and artistic movements from around the world.
ART3930r-04 Photo for Non-Majors Thursdays 9:00-11:30am
This course focuses on developing creative exploration in photography, aiming to expand artistic skills while introducing students to contemporary topics in art and photography. Through various projects and class assignments, students learn technical and digital skills, explore image editing techniques, work in a studio setting, develop concepts, and search for a personal creative style.
ART3930r-05 Virtual Reality for Non-Art Majors Tuesdays 3:05-5:35pm
This course is designed for VR enthusiasts and students interested in exploring tools, methods, and workflows for creating artworks and games using VR. Many assignments will involve using VR headsets for creating virtual environments, architecture, character sculpting, and texture painting. Experimentation is highly encouraged. The final output of our creations can be 3D prints, animations, or interactive experiences. Advanced students are also welcome to propose their own projects.
ART3930r-06 Screenprinting for Non-Majors Tuesday 6:35-9:05pm
Learn foundational skills in screenprinting and create editions of your own artwork and designs! Screenprinting is a versatile medium that can be applied in fine art and commercial contexts to create fancy printed editions, posters, merch, propaganda and more! In this class you will learn how to create unique designs using analog and digital tools and print them by hand on paper and fabric. This course grants you access to an advanced and fully equipped printmaking studio with open lab hours for you to work and create.
ART3930r-07 Sculpture for Non-majors MW3 3:05-4:20pm
Sculpture for Non-Art Majors This course provides students outside the visual arts with an introduction to materials and concepts in contemporary sculpture. All students will have full access to the sculpture facilities housed in the Department of Art including the wood, metal, and digital fabrication areas.
This studio will emphasize structure, materiality, and spatial relationships, while engaging students through tool demonstrations and hands-on projects utilizing a variety of materials. Studio practice is complemented by discussions and selected brief readings that situate sculpture within historical and contemporary contexts. No prior artistic experience is required, and by the conclusion of the course, students will have developed practical skills in basic sculptural processes, as well as an enhanced understanding of the role of sculpture as a mode of inquiry and cultural expression.
