Professor Carrie Ann Baade Awarded 1st Place at the Pensacola Museum of Art

Published April 1, 2021

Professor Carrie Ann Baade is currently exhibiting in the Pensacola Museum of Art 67th Annual Members Show, where her painting, titled “Anti-Vanitas” has been awarded 1st Place.

The show, on view March 13 – April 25, 2021, is an annual juried exhibition open to Pensacola Museum of Art members. It was introduced during the art center’s first year as a way to honor and celebrate the relationship between local artists and the institution. This year’s exhibition was juried by Elizabet Elliott, Executive Director/Curator of the Alabama Contemporary Art Center and showcases fifty artists working in a diverse range of media. Prizes were awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners and a special People’s Choice winner is determined by visitors. Votes may be cast here through April 24, 2021.

Ms. Baade is an internationally exhibiting artist whose oil paintings are rich with allegorical meta-narratives. These painted parables combine remnants of Renaissance and Baroque paintings, creating surreal landscapes inhabited by exotic flora, fauna, and figures. As a contemporary painter, she returns to the relevant moments in art history in order to reclaim them, not merely as a quotation of a theme or an image, but also as the materiality of methods and techniques that ultimately create them.
