Myah Freeman, a mixed media painter and muralist who graduated from FSU in 2021 with her BFA, was chosen to take part in the Mural Makeover Project. Freeman’s mural was unveiled on November 12, 2025, at 1549 S. Monroe Street in the Greater Frenchtown/Southside Tallahassee CRA district.
Freeman’s work reflects her adoration for the Black community as she resonates with its beauties and pains. She believes that the depiction of Black figures is crucial as there must be compensation for erasure, exclusion, and misrepresentation throughout art history. This mural was designed for the Bond Community Health Center, YouRx, and focuses on health, wellness and family.
This project is an initiative funded by the Knight Foundation, awarded by the Community Foundation of North Florida, and matching funds from the Tallahassee Community Redevelopment Agency (TCRA) in association with the Council on Culture & Arts (COCA) and the Bond Community Health Center. A planned grand opening and mural art walk will be hosted by COCA in December 2025 to officially unveil all six pieces, giving neighbors a chance to see the artwork up close and meet the artists behind the creations.
