Milagros Collective “Youth Climate Action” Exhibition at Ogden Museum of Southern Art

From their beginnings at FSU to becoming nationally recognized artists, Florida State University alumni Felici Asteinza (BA Art 2009) and Joey Fillastre (BFA Art 2009), founders of the dynamic MILAGROS Collective, exemplify the power of collaboration and the enduring impact of art education. This duo energizes public spaces with their bold art installations and continue to make waves in the art world with their vibrant, community-focused installations. Joey and Felici met as undergraduates at FSU in 2007, and have developed a reputation for creating immersive, site-specific works that celebrate the history and spirit of the spaces they transform.

MILAGROS’ recent projects include Shrimpfinity at Fairgrounds St. Pete in St. Petersburg, Florida, and a striking installation at MOCA Jacksonville. Currently, their work is on display at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans, featured as part of the museum’s programming from January through February 2025.

The Ogden installation includes an exciting collaboration with teen interns and Kennedy Timmons for Youth Climate Action, featuring creative “crud buddies” crafted by the teens themselves. These playful and imaginative sculptures are made from recycled and found materials, emphasizing the importance of sustainability in art. The installation showcases MILAGROS’ signature exuberant style while celebrating the contributions of young artists and their unique creations. Visitors are invited to explore the display, spot their favorite crud buddy, and appreciate the extra-special characters included in this community-based project.

Known for their bold color palettes and playful, intuitive designs, MILAGROS creates visual experiences that integrate seamlessly into their environments. By emphasizing collaboration and the handmade, children and interns experimented with paper pulp, learn about microplastics, and make environmentally conscious art.

Felici and Joey’s installations provide positive connections, making art accessible and impactful for all. Their work stands as a testament to the transformative potential of public art, creating spaces that celebrate individuality while fostering community spirit.

There’s still time to catch their installation at the Ogden Museum before it comes down March 9th!
