The Florida State University Department of Art celebrated the opening of an exhibition of faculty artwork earlier this month with a symposium that invited artists to share insights into their creative processes, reflect on their bodies of work, and explore connections with their colleagues.

Conceptualized and curated by Department of Art Chair Jeff Beekman as part of the university’s annual Festival of the Creative Arts, “Lay of the Land” examines our complex relationships with the landscapes we inhabit, and showcases the diverse work of the department’s faculty, with featured artwork ranging from colorful abstract paintings to life-sized ceramic sculptures. The exhibition features work from eight of the department’s faculty members: Jonathan Christensen Caballero, Kevin Curry, Brian Dick, Lilian Garcia-Roig, Katie Kehoe, Keith Roberson, Anne Stagg and Jean Shon.
“It’s always a pleasure to be able to share the work of our faculty with the public, and I encourage members of the Tallahassee community to come and explore and engage with this exciting exhibition,” said Beekman.

“Lay of the Land” is hosted at the Facility for Arts Research’s FAR Gallery, located on Sessions Road in Northwest Tallahassee. Admission is free and open to the public three days a week for select hours from March 3 through May 1.
