The Division of Student Affairs

from FSU Art BA ’21 Lauren Rollins:

This spring semester, I was fortunate enough to have an internship with the Division of Student Affairs here at Florida State University. While interning there, my responsibilities included tasks such as creating graphics for social media posts, photo editing, creating logos, as well as creating posters for various organizations. I have learned many valuable skills from this internship such as becoming more fluent with programs that I used everyday while working there such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign. I have also learned important life skills such as learning how to work with what the customer wants, and making adjustments to my work accordingly as well as still creating work that I am proud of.

This internship taught me a lot, but with new skills came quite a few challenges. Some of the challenges that I faced this spring were learning to use Photoshop to do a lot of photo editing, because that was something I didn’t have a lot of experience in. The other biggest challenge that I faced was learning to accept that it is ok to ask  for help from my peers or my employers, if I wasn’t sure how to do something in a program.

Finally, the most memorable parts of this internship were that feeling of success and pride when I learned a new skill or made work that I was proud of and couldn’t wait to show the people I made it for. The most enjoyable part of this internship were my coworkers and the bosses. Everyone was so kind and friendly and I am glad I had the pleasure to get to know everyone. I would definitely recommend this internship to other students! It’s a great experience and I hope others will get to experience what I did as well.
