The Korean-born artist first visited Tallahassee in 2021, as part of the Department of Art’s visiting artist program.

The Florida State University College of Fine Arts and the Department of Art are excited to announce that nationally acclaimed painter and sculptor Jiha Moon will join the department as a professor of painting in the 2023-2024 academic year.

A square painting hangs on a wall. It features swirling blue and yellow motifs, including what appear to be bananas.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have an artist of Jiha Moon’s caliber join our painting faculty,” said Lilian Garcia Roig, Chair of the Department of Art. “This is such exciting news for our students, and the entire FSU Community.”

Moon, who was recently selected as a 2023 Guggenheim Fellow, has received wide-ranging recognition for her work, including a Joan Mitchell Foundations’ Painters & Sculptors award and an Artadia award.

The Korean-born artist first visited Tallahassee in 2021, as part of the Department of Art’s visiting artist program. A collection of her ceramic work entitled “Chasing Spirits” was exhibited at the Florida State University Museum of Fine Art last year.

“I am excited to be joining the FSU faculty,” said Moon. “The Department was incredibly welcoming during my previous visit I feel the strong sense of community. I can’t wait to be part of it.”

Moon will begin teaching at FSU in Spring 2024 and is currently making arrangements for her move to Tallahassee.
