Published February 1, 2023

FSU Studio Art BFA ’16 Todd Jones will have a solo exhibition at 621 Gallery in Railroad Square Art District. “Salting The Dig” will be exhibited from February 3rd through the 23rd. The opening reception will be on First Friday, February 3rd, from 5 – 10 pm.Todd received his BFA with a double major in Studio Art and Psychology from Florida State University, an MFA in Painting + Drawing, and Graduate Certificate in Visual Arts Management from Ohio University. He is currently living in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he is a Visiting Assistant Professor / Gallery Director at Meredith College.

Born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida, Todd is an artist who pushes the boundaries of painting into sculpture. Todd reformulates discarded and mistint house paints into a visual record of cultural history through material transformations by pouring numerous layers to create strata-like forms that mimic natural sedimentation. The new relationship of each color layer is exposed through excavation and creates a cultural snapshot that examines the development of our society through patterns of culture/identity shedding. Process plays a central role in his work as he recontextualizes materials through collection and intervention. Salvaging and molding layers of paint into newfound forms, these stratifications expose remnants and the foundation of their previous lives.
