Professor Garcia-Roig in show at Huntsville Museum of Art in Alabama

Published November 16, 2021

Professor and Chair of FSU’s Art Department, Lilian Garcia-Roig’s work will be shown at the “Imitation of Life: Contemporary Approaches to Realism” exhibit in Huntsville Museum, AL. Imitation of Life: Contemporary Approaches to Realism presents a selection of contemporary artworks from the Museum’s permanent collection that illustrate a variety of approaches to depicting the real world. Lilian Garcia-Roig will be having her piece “Painted Paint Rock” included in the show.

“Painted Paint Rock” was made on-site in 2008 as a 3000 acre nature conservation site in Paint Rock AL. The painting was originally featured as part of the “Encounters” solo show series at the Huntsville Museum of Art in 2008, and is now in the Museum’s permanent collection. The wok is oil on canvas and is a 48″ x 72 ” diptych.

Works in the show range from precise interpretations to more fluid and suggestive takes on portraying a person, place or thing. Highlights include photorealist paintings by David Parrish and Jared Small; trompe l’oeil works by Ed Ruscha and Jim Jobe; a pixelated portrait by Chuck Close, and an evocative mixed media assemblage by Larry Walker, among others.

This exhibit will be shown from October 24, 2021 – January 16, 2022.. For more information click here.
