Kevin Curry

Assistant Professor

Area Head, Sculpture & Electronic Art

Department of Art

As an American-born, foreign-raised sculptor-researcher, Curry’s experiences as an outsider have continually shaped his work and the multifaceted exploration of memory, the hidden, passed-over and forgotten facets of a society that is confronted daily with communication that has been co-opted to serve as a tool of persuasion and authoritarianism. Curry’s work also examines the value of labor, where success is directly correlated with time-spent on a specific task, and the resulting financial gain.

As a professor, Curry’s pedagogical focus counters the non-inclusive, alienating environments he experienced as a student. His classes enable students to learn the technical, theoretical, and material specific essentials while engaging in ongoing one-on-one dialogues as a means for each student to find their own voice – to understand who they are, or who they wish to become.

Curry’s work has been exhibited in galleries across the U.S., and he has expanded his studio practice through artist residencies ranging from the Grand Canyon, to hiking in the Yukon Territory. He has presented his work and research at multiple conferences, speaking on such topics as place, wayfinding, and the tumultuous arena of public art.

Curry currently sits on the board of SECAC (Southeast College Art Conference), where he brings his experience in academia, and a past career as an art director and freelance illustrator to the table.
