MFA Candidate Spotlight: Iris Eve Schaer

Published February 20, 2024

Iris Eve Schaer is a third year MFA Candidate from Atlanta, GA. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia in 2015 with an emphasis in sculpture. Her studio practice is centered around the human body as a material playground and questioning sculptural forms, sometimes exploring them through performance. Schaer creates a visceral visual language that abstracts the gut and brain as a metaphor for physical and emotional processing. She enjoys learning and using many different materials and processes in her research, currently focusing on metal, ceramics and fibers.

“My time at FSU has allowed me to develop my visual language, introducing performance and wearable sculpture into my practice along with a greater understanding of art theory. The structure and support of the MFA Program has helped me gain confidence in my work and writing.”
