MFA Alum and NXTHVN Fellow Donald Guevara featured in exhibition at Sean Kelly, New York

Published July 6, 2023

Donald Guevara (FSU Studio Art MFA ‘22) is featured in the NXTHVN’s Cohort 04 Fellowship Program’s culminating group exhibition, RECLAMATION, at Sean Kelly, New York!! For more than 30 years, Sean Kelly Gallery has been internationally regarded for its diverse and intellectually driven program, a highly regarded roster of artists, and its collaboration with many of the most significant cultural institutions around the world. NXTHVN, a new national arts model that empowers artists and curators through education and access to a vibrant ecosystem, is a highly competitive 10-month program designed to accelerate the careers of the next generation and foster retention of professional art talent. Throughout RECLAMATION, each artist interrogates and reclaims the power of Western consumption as it relates to notions of beauty, art history, religion, spirituality, and sexuality. The exhibition will run through August 11, 2023.

Guevara meticulously sculpts layered collage-based works of drawings, found objects, and video to create vignettes and portals into the experience or state of mind that is attached to being within the “in-between” or occupying the space of the AFK (away from keyboard) Glitch.
