FSU Art professor Lilian Garcia-Roig is preparing for a trip to Cuba during her Spring 2017 sabbatical, where she will generate new bodies of work to be developed at the Joan Mitchell Center as Artist-in-Residence. According to the artist herself, the new “post-Cuba” works that Garcia-Roig hopes to make while in this residency — which is set to begin in May 2017 — will be “an entirely new direction in [her] work that is more grounded in [her] Latin American roots than ever.” She will be following the residency with exhibition opportunities that have already been presented in both Cuba and the United States.
The Joan Mitchell Center is an artist residency in New Orleans that supports local, national and international contemporary visual artists. For more information about them, please visit their website. A complete list of their upcoming Artists-in-Residence can be viewed here.
