Art and writing can seem wholly separate from one another, but there are instances when they combine to create ample creative opportunity. Lauren Fontaine, a Studio Art and Creative Writing Dual Degree student from Florida State, found one such opportunity in a summer internship with Sterling and Ross Publishers. Sterling and Ross, founded in 2004 by publisher Drew Nederpelt, is a New York publishing house dedicated to “publishing and promoting compelling, candid, and commercial books”.

“Sterling and Ross was very kind in making sure that the experience would be as beneficial for me as it was for them,” Lauren reported. “They’d been looking for someone to help with PR, but they took my education and artistic goals into account, and reshaped the internship to give me a chance to work in a professional design field.” Over the course of the summer, Lauren designed and created covers for three books that will be sold in stores nationally, in addition to developing and producing corporate logos, promotional illustrations, and storyboards.
