Kevin Curry was selected as the U.S. Representative for the 2015 Chilkoot Trail Artist Residency in British Columbia. Kevin Curry spent two weeks camping in the trail, while also giving workshops at the campgrounds and interacting with other hikers. He spoke with CBC Yukon about his experience on the trail, which far exceeded his expectations. Kevin stays in touch with hikers whom he interacted with on the trail to extend the experience of the trail beyond the Yukon.
Curry ”collected” art by using a technique called photogrammetry, where he takes pictures from all sides of an object and later put it into a program where he is able to 3D print. He utilized this program by creating a 3D printed map of the trail to guide their way. With this project he continues to explore how humans collect experiences and assign emotions to memorabilia. He took a few along to his trip and he was able to talk to hikers who were interested in his work or just passing along.
