I am the design intern for Student Life Cinema here on campus. Every Friday I meet with the SLC Public Relations team to be assigned tasks to be completed at a later date. I have several weeks to complete larger assignments and a week to complete smaller assignments. For my first assignment, I teamed up with another designer to create the Mid Spring movie schedule. I had two weeks to complete this assignment. I used InDesign to create a pamphlet containing a schedule of movies. The pamphlet was distributed all over FSUs campus after it was completed. The schedule was a great portfolio piece and it has been exciting seeing my work all over campus. For my next assignment, I had to create two slides and one web banner for each movie and gaming event at the SLC. I had 3 weeks to complete this assignment. I created the slides and banners in Photoshop. The slides are advertisements for upcoming movies. They are shown in the theater before a movie. The banners are shown on the SLC website. After I finished the slides and banners, I got to design the poster for the Badass Cinema Series. This was a very exciting project because I had a lot of creative freedom on the poster. I have enhanced my Photoshop and InDesign skills since starting my internship with the SLC. I hope to leave the internship with a few more pieces for my portfolio and a great letter of recommendation. My greatest challenge since starting the internship has been time management. We only meet as a group once a week, so it is up to me to make sure that I meet deadlines. I really enjoy my weekly meetings with the PR committee. I have made some good friends and everyone gives me great feedback on ways to improve my design skills. I would recommend this internship to other students because it is a great way to build your portfolio while getting involved on campus. It also doesnt hurt that I get free popcorn when I see a movie 😉
