With seven years of mural painting experience, Painter Hayes has established themselves as a leading force in the world of mural artistry. Their work can be seen across the United States, adorning public spaces and leaving a lasting impression on communities. Painter Hayes is now offering a unique internship opportunity for current Florida State University students to join their team and gain hands-on experience in the world of large-scale mural painting.
Position Overview:
As a Studio Art Intern with Painter Hayes, you will have the opportunity to work closely with Sarah and Cosby on all phases of mural creation. This internship is ideal for FSU students who are passionate about studio art, especially painting, and are eager to learn about the process of creating large-scale murals.
Interns will gain valuable experience in outdoor painting, equipment operation, paint preparation, and the business aspects of a successful career as a muralist. This unique blend of art and entrepreneurship will provide you with a realistic look at how your passion for art can evolve into a thriving business.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Exterior & Interior Painting: Spend extended periods of time painting, often outdoors, assisting in the creation of large-scale murals at various locations.
2. Equipment Operation: Learn to operate and maintain lifts, scaffolds, and ladders safely to assist in mural installations.
3. Paint Preparation: Assist in ordering, mixing, and preparing paint for mural projects, ensuring the proper colors, textures, and quantities are ready for use.
4. Design and Planning: Collaborate with the Painter Hayes team during the design and planning phases of mural projects, contributing creative ideas and concepts.
5. Business Exposure: Gain insight into the business practices and strategies that Painter Hayes has developed over the years to establish successful careers as artists.
Qualifications:

- Currently enrolled (SP24) undergraduate Studio Art major at Florida State University in good standing
- Completed at least one year of study in Studio Art
- Passion for studio art, particularly painting
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions
- Willingness to operate and maintain equipment safely
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Creative and collaborative mindset
- Access to a vehicle for transportation to job sites and related locations
