Rachel Rossin (FSU Art BFA ’09) now has work in the Guggenheim’s collection! New York’s Guggenheim Museum just revealed the 39 works that it acquired last year, among them paintings by some of today’s most celebrated artists as well as many works by emerging and mid-career artists whose international prominence is still growing. These acquisitions further the Guggenheim’s commitment to expanding its interpretation and presentation of modern and contemporary art, with a particular focus on works that reflect diversity and innovative practices. Rossin was specifically highlighted by the Guggenheim as one of the notable first time additions from 2025.

Rossin’s “Scry Glass” (2023) screens evoke two modes of looking: a form of divination and fortune-telling as well as a form of reflection using a Claude glass, a revolutionary tool used by 18th century landscape painters. For Rossin however, these “black mirrors” are not for predicting end times, but instead leave clues for the viewer, allowing us to remain tethered to the present.
