The Department of Art is excited to announce the Spring 2021 Visiting Critic series. Graduate students worked with faculty to research and identify artists, curators, and scholars to invite to participate in digital studio visits. Nine arts leaders, including Mickalene Thomas, Jonathan Herrera Soto, Alpesh Kantilal Patel, Christopher Jones, Jules Rosskam, TK Smith, Steven L. Anderson and William Downs (of Day and Night Projects), and Alison Ruttan will meet with graduate students individually to discuss their work and share their perspective. Programs such as these broaden student experience and model pathways to contemporary engagement with the professional world.
Given the severe disruptions and limits the COVID-19 caused to interpersonal interaction, the Department of Art decided to substitute, find another way to have personal student to visiting artists interactions that would normally occur throughout a normal academic year. The Graduate students worked closely with FSU MoFA Curator Meredith Lynn and Assistant Professor Daniel Luedtke in organizing these exciting, one-on-one studio virtual visits. Special thanks to Alex Adkinson, President of the League of Graduate Artists (LGA), who was in charge of spearheading the original MFAs “wish list” of visiting artists. We are very excited to have had such a great group of artists interact with our students this spring.
