Students in Marnie Bettridge’s 3D Foundations class used Spring House, Florida’s only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home, as a launching point for a wood scul
pture project. Students visited the house to sketch and respond to the architecture, then returned to place their sculptures in context and critique them. Byrd Lewis Mashburn, daughter of the house’s owners, was present and participated in the discussion.
The Spring House and its importance to Tallahassee was recently the subject of an article in the Oxford American. The Spring House Institute is working to preserve the house. Please visit their website for more information and a link to the article.
