Walt Disney once said, “You can dream, create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make that dream a reality.” Since the end of January, I have been turning not just Walt’s dream, but my own, into a reality while being a part of the Disney College Program! I wrote about this amazing program at the end of the Spring semester, and as my time here is quickly coming to an end I still could not be happier to have been given the chance to take part in this program. Like most people in the program, I have used my time here to take part in seminars, events, and other networking opportunities in order to take my first steps with the Walt Disney company and help create a career after I graduate next spring.
For the past 6 months, I have been working in a merchandise position at Disney Springs in World of Disney! Over the course of my program, I have had the chance to meet guests and cast members from all over the world, and have made many connections that I hope will help me as I enter the work force after graduation. Since I am hoping to pursue a job in the graphic design field, it has been a great experience getting to see so many examples of design within our own store every day. It is amazing how much you can learn just by observing the objects that exist around you!
While working is a big part of the program, another large component is also the seminars and classes that are offered. In the spring, I took a course on sales and marketing, which gave us a better look at how Disney markets their brand. Over the summer, there have been a number of smaller events offered on various topics, such as how to network properly, how to perfect your resume, and even how to present yourself in the most professional way possible. They are all really great experiences and great tools to use moving forward!
Although my time in this program is almost over, it has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. I am so thankful to have gotten to learn from and work for one of my favorite companies, and I know the skills I have learned over the past 6 months are skills that I will carry with me for the rest of my career.
