FSU Art Alumni Helene Mukhtar Receives Award at Artexpo, NYC

Published April 19, 2022

FSU Art alumni and multidisciplinary artist, Helene Mukhtar, presented her latest digital work and paintings at Artexpo, NYC. where she received the “Best New Exhibitor Award.”  Her work was on view April 7-10, 2022 at Booth 204, Pier 36, 299 South Street, New York, NY 10002.

Energy, passion, life, movement, color… these words define Helene’s work. She celebrates the human spirit and life on our planet in all its forms. In her colorful and magical world, she mixes abstraction with realism and minimalism with exuberance.

Trained as a painter, Helene’s work, today, encompasses films, computer graphics, animations and video installations. She constantly experiments and combines these new mediums with her more traditional practice. Her action-packed films artfully mix paintings, videos and digital graphics. The films are shown on screens incorporated into painted sculptures. In turn, the colorful panels of her screen sculptures are reflected back into her paintings in the form of geometric abstractions. The paintings and video installations she presents at Artexpo, NYC, 2022, reflect this ongoing dialogue.

Helene was born in Nice, France. She now lives and works in Brooklyn. Helene started an artist’s career late in life. In New York City, she studied at the School of Visual Arts and the Art Students League. In 2006, she received an MFA from Florida State University. Since then, her work has been exhibited in numerous shows and art fairs.
