George Blakely’s piece from the ”Text/Image” series ”Beaumont Newhall: The History of Photography” is included in the exhibition What’s Next: Selections from the George Eastman House at FOAM Amsterdam from november 5th to December 7, 2011.
This exhibition explores the future of a museum of Photography as part of a year-long celebration of FOAM’s tenth anniversary . FOAM invited four international guest curators to interrogate this theme, and these four exhibitions will be presented simultaneously . Blakely’s work will be part of a section curated by Alison Nordstrom
Senior Curator of Photographs and Director of Exhibitions at the George Eastman House and emphasizes the materiality of photography and the value of the physical print as a resource of information within the museum, and as a place for concentration, study and reflection. This section also includes a host of internatioinal recognized artists such as Chuck Close, Julia Margaret Cameron, Lucas Samaras, Binh Danh, Fredrick H. Evans and Clarissa Sligh.
