Department of Art Debuts New Gallery Logos

Department of Art debuts new logos for all department galleries!

These logos represent a collaboration between the Department of Art and FSU Creative Services, designed by FSU Art Alum Elton Burgest (BFA 2018). The new logos premiered at the department’s Fall Kick Off event.

The FAB Gallery expands exhibition opportunities for staff, faculty members, and students in the Department of Art at FSU. The gallery serves as an educational tool for continued critical inquiry and experimentation within the department. The FAB Gallery shares the pedagogy of the Department of Art with the broader community in a space that is open and accessible to students from across the university. By embracing experimentation and all the varied media of the Department of Art, the FAB Gallery showcases the creative and educational processes that are fundamental to the department.

Working Method Contemporary (WMC) is the dedicated gallery space for Masters of Fine Art Students at Florida State University. The program is composed of approximately thirty graduate students pursuing a terminal degree in Studio Art. The gallery provides students a space for exhibition, experimentation, and documentation of works created while attending Florida State. It operates as an alternative, non-traditional space dedicated to showing recent works, as well as collaborations, by students currently enrolled in the program. On select Fridays, the gallery opens a new exhibition for the public to explore. These exhibitions include painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, video works, installations, and performance art. Working Method Contemporary Gallery also offers a platform for the students to participate in the art world at large. While the premises are provided to the graduates by the university, Working Method is run by student volunteers, who are responsible for maintenance, publicity, and day to day gallery functions. The primary source of support for the gallery comes from donations and fundraising activities initiated by the students themselves.

The Phyllis Straus Gallery is a space for students to engage in the making of visual cultures, innovations, experimentation, and expression through exhibitions and events in contemporary art. Through juried and group exhibitions — as well as solo student showcasings made by appointment — Bachelors of Fine Arts students are given the opportunity to submit their work for potential selection for upcoming shows. Upon acceptance, works by these artists will be on display, accompanied by publication and press for the exhibition. Surrounding student exhibitions, collective events from artists, poets, musicians, and like-minded creative individuals will also take place. Above all, the Phyllis Straus Gallery is a center where openness, collaboration, creative inquiry, and the establishment of community is encouraged. We emphasize community to help provide a richer investment in learning and idea-sharing that we hope to see in a larger context around us.
