Join Gadsden Arts Center Curator, Angie Barry, for a special tour of Hot Wax and Hot Glass: Leslie Neumann and Susan Gott. Angie will discuss the encaustic and csst-glass works with visitors, and present perspectives on the installation. This tour is free and open to the public.
Hot Wax & Hot Glass – St. Petersburg, Florida, artists Leslie Newmann and Susan Gott employ material and process to influence the color and form in their work. Neumann, working with encaustic (hot wax) and oil paint applies the paint and wax to a surface while hot, and as it congeals, she scrapes away colors, engraves words or pictographs, resulting in a rich luminous surface. Gott casts molten glass directly from a furnace burning at 2300 degrees F, and incorporates images, symbols, inclusions and color, inspired by mythological imagery and symbolism.
