Call for Applicants: Wide Open Studios 2013 Programs

Wide Open Studios is now accepting applications to wilderness arts courses for graduate and undergraduate students. Applications are free, online, and open to all students, regardless of institutional affiliation. The application period closes at midnight on December 31st, 2012.

Wide Open Studios is a new initiative of Signal Fire, which has provided wilderness retreats and residencies for artists from all disciplines since 2008. Signal Fire programs instill self-reliance, catalyze creative energy, and invite interdisciplinary collaboration. Signal Fire locates its projects on public lands to advocate for the access to— and protection of— our remaining wild places in order to enrich and sustain society.

Coyote Canyon MFA Trip
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
March 24-30, 2013
course begins and ends in San Diego, CA
eligibility: any student currently enrolled in an MFA or MA program

California Stars: Summer Immersion Program
Five successive week-long trips throughout California
June 16-July 21, 2013
course begins and ends in Berkeley, CA
eligibility: anyone aged 18 and over, regardless of current college affiliation
