“Portal Hopper” by Brad Blair

FSU Art MFA 2014 Brad Blair’s sculpture “Portal Hopper” was recently accepted into the 2022 Southern Miss Ceramics National held at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gallery of Art and Design. This biennial exhibition of ceramic sculpture, vessel forms, and ceramic installation works features artists from across the US. Beginning in 2016, the biennial has since become one of the top ceramic arts exhibitions in the country featuring a broad spectrum of contemporary ceramic works. It features a gallery exhibition, an awards ceremony, juror’s lecture and studio demonstration. This year’s juror, George Rodriquez, is a visual artist and ceramic sculptor who creates large-scale figurative works in clay. Born and raised in the border city of El Paso, Texas, Rodriguez draws inspiration from his Mexican-American upbringing. Visualized with ornament, humor and reverence for tradition, his art builds bridges between cultures as well as presents connections to the past.

The exhibition runs Oct. 10 – Nov. 4, 2022
