FSU Art MFA ’22 Makenzie Heinemann is exhibiting a series of 10 new paintings along with several ceramic works in a show titled, water;partner, at Working Method Contemporary, March 25 – 31, 2021. Opening reception will be held Friday, March 26, 2021 at 8 pm.

I’ve been painting in a very wet process, allowing the materials their own agency within the work. I intend to carry this process toward my thesis work which will propose privileging (fluid) sensory understanding over cognition. The process of responding to the liquid movements confronts the tendency to fix ideas, bodies, feelings into a grid. Instead, my goal is to develop more complexity within my own understanding of things, people, concepts as respective bodies in movement.

Ms. Heinemann is originally from Phoenix, Arizona where she earned a BFA in Painting from Arizona State University. She is currently living and working in Tallahassee where she is a Studio Art MFA candidate at Florida State University.
