Kendall Clark, Class of 2014 FSU BFA student, just completed a summer internship with Kaye Communications, Inc., a full service public relations and marketing firm, is a summer well spent. The company, which has been active in the Boca area for years greatly emphasizes strategizing and teamwork when approaching any problem. A graphic design intern can expect not only skills related to design, but lessons in marketing, networking and professional skills.
Projects completed this summer ranged from event logos, restaurant menus, hotel maps, business card designs, and invitations. Interns also gain real world experience in tasks not learned in school, such as prepping a design for printing. Additional knowledge was gained in an online newsletter design program called Constant Contact. This program allows a designer to not only create layouts for things like press releases, newsletters and invitations, but also easily sends these e-blasts to hundreds of e-mail addresses at a time.
Interns are kept busy with interesting and engaging projects that allows for client interaction and a variety of skills. Time management and prioritization is key when faced with multiple problems and deadlines.
Best advice for anyone looking to land an internship or succeed in a new internship – be open minded, ask questions and take in as much knowledge as you possibly can!
