Solo Exhibition at 621 Gallery, Inc. Tallahassee, FL // Los Niños Híbridos

“Los Niños Híbridos” (The hybrid children) is a narrative of what it means to exist between worlds. The exhibition centers on the lived experiences of mixed race individuals, immigrants, children of immigrants, and others who have found themselves caught in the betwixt and between. Those who never feel completely at home in one place, culture, or identity.

Through ceramics, textiles, digital imagery, and organic materials, I created a space for those who have experienced this sense of displacement. Spices play an important part within this work, acting as symbols of protection, resilience and strength for those who need it more than ever.

“Los Niños Híbridos” serves as a place that embraces the different identities, histories, and experiences. This space shows they can exist together. This space is a safe haven, a space that was created for individuals who have spent their lives trying to understand where they belong. This is my offering to you.
