Faculty Spotlight: Professor Jonathan Christensen Caballero!

“We are Home / Estamos en Casa” by Jonathan Christensen Caballero was awarded first prize in the juried exhibition, “Multi-Faceted: Mixed Media & Connected Identities” at the Arts Council of Fayetteville | Cumberland County Gallery in North Carolina by jurors Roymieco A. Carter, Tsunamii, and Collyn Strother.

Caballero engages in a dialogue between past and present, labor and migration, familial connections and individual aspirations in his sculptures of the human figure. His focus on materials and their significance in Latin American tradition provide rich context for his figures and start a conversation on labor and community contributions to the American landscape.

Caballero has also been announced as a juror for the annual Artaxis Fellowships. These fellowships fund 2 recipients for a 2-week summer workshop at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine, USA. The Fellowship is intended to increase diversity, equity, and access across the field of the ceramic arts. The 2026 Fellowship Selection Committee is comprised of: Malene Djenaba Barnett, Jonathan Christensen Caballero, and Nicole McLaughlin. http://artaxis.org/fellowship
