University of Cincinnati: Study Abroad in Berlin
Studio Based Inquiry in Berlin: Research as Theory & Practice is a six week studio/seminar course based in Berlin, Germany that focuses on exploring different research/production methods in the visual arts through group discussion and individual projects guided by faculty.
This course will cultivate working relationships between German and American students, artists, community organizations and art exhibition sites to assist in the effective development of student’s individual studio/research projects. Through self-directed inquiry, research and collaboration students will conduct research in a studio-based environment that reflects contemporary practices in the visual arts and theory.
The lives of the students will be transformed as they immerse themselves in the European center for international arts practice and research, cultivate working relationships with German artists and researchers, and experience living in another country through collaborative studio practices, studio visits, and meetings with curators and community organizers. The formal and informal dispositions learned in this experience will give students tools to navigate and creatively engage in an ever-shifting world. Students will be expected to explore Berlin as contemporary and historic city, as well as situate Berlin’s influence within the greater context of Europe through regional/international travel to designated cities across Europe.
