Each semester, the School of Art+Design at Purchase College invites one artist in applied design and craft for the Windgate Artist In Residence Program. Resident artists are expected to develop a body of work while at Purchase and to be extensively involved in the education of Purchase students and the larger Purchase community. Specific involvement during the residency beyond each artist’s own work might include guest lecturing in a master class, giving public lectures, mentoring students, participating in exhibits, providing workshops for the college community.
The Windgate Artist in Residence receives:
– a stipend of $19,000 per semester
– 24/7 studio access (located within the college’s sculpture shops)
– access to Art+Design facilities
– on-campus accommodation
– a culminating exhibition
This program supports the development of new work by artists and designers (industrial, object, furniture, spatial, etc.) that can benefit from the educational and financial support of this opportunity. They seek risk-takers with strong technical expertise and conceptual rigor in one or more of the following areas of specialization: craft, applied design, craft in the expanded form, social and material practices, environmental design, and/or the intersection of art, design, and architecture.
