The South Dakota State University School of Design invites applications for a one-year Instructor position to begin August 22, 2015. With opportunity for renewal and longer-term contract after first year.

Responsibilities include:

  • teaching courses within the professional BFA curriculum including: graphic design, computer graphics, and foundations at the Brookings campus and University Center in Sioux Falls
  • developing and carrying out an agenda of creative activity
  • providing service to the graphic design program.

SDSU is a thriving land-grant university with a rich tradition of art and design instruction. Located in Brookings, a nurturing and robust college town north of Sioux Falls and west of Minneapolis, SDSU is set in a rich fabric of communities that are embracing innovation and smart design practice and culture.

Graphic Design (170 majors) at SDSU is nested within the new School of Design (450 majors), along with programs in architecture, interior design, landscape architecture and studio arts. Collectively, the School’s faculty forms a collaborative teaching and research environment that values cross-program and interdisciplinary initiatives.

The Graphic Design Program is celebrating its 30th anniversary and is seeking NASAD accreditation by 2017. The graphic design program is focused on assisting students in preparation of professional portfolios, peer-reviewed studio practice and serving the public good within South Dakota, the region and beyond.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MFA in Graphic Design or related terminal degree considered (minimum ABT); experience in design fields; and ability to teach graphic design,    computer graphics and foundations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completed M.F.A. or terminal degree in graphic design; evidence of successful teaching in graphic design, interactive design and foundations; ability to teach digital photography and to develop online courses (longer-term); and peer-reviewed evidence of successful graphic design work.

An online link to a similarly formatted PDF portfolio is an acceptable alternative; the URL must be uploaded in place of the portfolio on the employment website.
