SALARY RANGE: $55,000-68,000

Position Description:
The Department of Art & Art History at the University of Alabama at Birmingham seeks an artist to teach Sculpture and related concepts and strategies to begin August 15, 2015 as an Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure earning). The faculty member will teach a 3-2 course load, and/or another assignment as determined by the department Chair including independent study students; and contributing to the sculpture program, department, college, and university in the area of service. Candidates must demonstrate a broad knowledge of sculpture (material, technique, form, content) and be able to articulate contemporary, historical and conceptual issues.

We seek a candidate who is an artist and an enthusiastic educator with a strong desire to build the program and foster excellence in our students while teaching courses at all levels. The successful candidate should demonstrate a commitment to his or her personal research and program/curriculum planning and development. Salary commensurate with experience.

Necessary Qualifications:
MFA or equivalent professional experience is required. Candidates must demonstrate a broad knowledge of sculpture (material, technique, form, content) and be able to articulate contemporary, historical and conceptual issues. Preference will be given to individuals with a strong record of creative achievement and professional exhibition/publication record and evidence of college teaching effectiveness. Teaching experience beyond graduate assistantship also preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of quality teaching at the university level; commitment to contemporary art practice; good writing, speaking and interpersonal skills; knowledge of sculpture facilities and an ability to contribute to their maintenance. Applicants should have a strong interest in foundations level teaching.
