MANDEM Awarded MoFA Professional Development Award

Published July 28, 2014

MANDEM (FSU Art MFA ’15Screen Shot 2014-07-28 at 6.27.10 PM Maize Arendsee and her partner, Moco Steinman) was awarded the FSU Museum of Fine Arts’ Artists’ League’s Professional Development Award for 2014.

The purpose of the Professional Development Award is to help offset a portion of the costs related to attending or developing workshops, conferences, classes, or the buying of equipment or supplies related to the recipient’s art.

Leslie Puckett, one of the MoFA Professional Development Award committee members, had this to say about why MANDEM was selected for the 2014 award: “Their artwork is excellent quality, thought provoking, and incorporates various media in a cutting edge way that I think speaks to a younger generation than mine.”

MANDEM will be using the award money to attend the 70th annual Southeastern College Art Conference (SECAC) in Sarasota, FL, where they will be presenting their paper “Medusa, from Ovid to Cixous to ‘Once Upon A Time’” as part of the “Wicked Women in Art” session, as well as showing artwork as part of the SECAC exhibit (juried by Dr. Matthew McLendon, Curator for Modern and Contemporary Art at The Ringling Museum).
