Curator Lisa Rockford, invited FSU Associate Teaching Professor Kevin Curry to be part of her latest exhibition, “Hot & Sticky – The Sultry State” at Projects Contemporary Art Space in Fat Village, Ft. Lauderdale. Utilizing contemporary approaches, these 13 Florida residents examine what makes their home state entirely unique. The artists draw inspiration from Florida’s raw natural beauty, vast oceans, habitat, and our co-dependent relationship to it. From documenting, mapping, and translating terrain and data, collecting and assembling artifacts, representing the wild and colorful quirks of the locale, to offering portents of its uncertain future.
Curry’s work in this exhibit is the latest in his “Tripping Over the Same Stone” series, which involves explorations centered on the mobility and authorship of memories, language and objects – a dialogue reflective of the intersection and location of place in our lives.
