FSU Art Professor Rob Duarte continues historic research project in Poland this summer

Published June 18, 2012

Assistant Professor Rob Duarte has worked with Handshouse Studio for nearly 10 years on research projects that examine the connections between art, history, technology and culture. This summer, Rob will serve as a faculty member for an ongoing travel program that brings students and professionals from around the world together to recreate parts of a wooden synagogue that existed in Poland before WWII. This summer’s work is the result of years of hands-on research by dozens of students, educators and professionals, and will culminate in the creation of a large-scale reproduction of the timber-frame roof structure and ceiling paintings of the Gwoździec synagogue. The results will become a major exhibit in the newly constructed Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw. Follow the project’s progress at http://gwozdziec.tumblr.com/
